Yes, it's true what everyone says – your baby's first birthday party is more for you than for him/her, but so what? Why not celebrate you? You made it through the first year and that's a huge accomplishment! For your little one, a birthday party may be nothing more than an excuse to wear cake, but for you it's a time to gather your friends and family, celebrate your beautiful bundle, and thank the community that supported you over that momentous first year. So bring out the cake! (and the wet wipes!)

First Prize Baby
We think your baby is #1! Demonstrate that your babe is Best in Show with a theme based around 1st prize at the county fair. For snacks, think healthy takes on classic fair fare, like watermelon and corn on the cob. First-prize ribbons make quick and cute decorations. Older kids will enjoy playing fair-style games like a bean bag or ring toss.
Once upon a time, a beautiful baby was born – and now he or she is one! Consider a storybook party, with classic favorites like Goodnight Moon, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or Where the Wild Things Are. Or make new memories with modern classics like Goodnight Gorilla and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus. Serve up treats on plates set on stacks of picture books, or decorate with color copies of familiar book jackets. Read a few short, lively stories aloud to your littlest guests, or ask your most animated friend (we all know the one!) In lieu of presents, ask your guests to bring a book for baby with a personal message written inside. Or if your house already feels like a library, consider gathering books for donation instead.

Admit it: your camera is filled with hundreds if not thousands of photos of your loved one, so why not put them to use! A party built around the cutest baby snaps is sure to please. Simply print out some of your favorites and use them as decorations, favors, even cupcake toppers. Hang one photo from each month for an inexpensive, captivating centerpiece. And don't forget to add to the memory book, too – round up some fun, inexpensive photo props like hats, feather boas, or neckties, and have your guests pose with the birthday baby, then add those photos to the stash for next year's party.
There are dozens of great party themes, from Astronauts to Zoos - but most of all, have fun! And don't sweat the details. No matter how many balloons you inflate or streamers you tie, your adorable birthday boy or girl will always be the star of the show, and that's just how it should be.
